W serwisie IBTimes została opublikowana przypuszczalna specyfikacja netbooka, którym Google planuje uraczyć nas w nowym roku.
Według serwisu gigant wyszukiwania ma zamiar tak wyposażyć netbooka, by jego cena detaliczna nie przekroczyła trzystu dolarów. Komputer bazować będzie oczywiście na systemie Google Chrome OS i architekturze ARM. O to, by netbook był w stanie wyświetlać filmy w rozdzielczości HD, zadba układ NVidia Tegra. Wyświetlacz komputera to dziesięciocalowy, dotykowy ekran o rozdzielczości 1280×720 pikseli (720p HD). Dysk twardy, jak zapowiadał od początku gigant, to nie układ oparty o elementy ruchome – HDD – a pamięć masowa oparta o układy pamięci flash – SSD, o przypuszczalnej pojemności 64GB.
Google netbook ma posiadać poza tym dwa gigabajty pamięci RAM, obsługę Wi-Fi, sieci 3G oraz GPS. Twórcy nie zapomną wyposażyć go w czytnik kart pamięci i kamerę internetową, co obecnie jest standardem w netbookach.
Tym, czym interesują się entuzjaści, jest wykorzystanie architektury ARM. Jeśli Google osiągnie sukces ze swoim systemem, niekoniecznie na netbooku swojej produkcji, to zapanuje konkurencja między architekturami. Intel zapowiedział na siódmego stycznia ruszenie z produkcją pierwszych na świecie układów w technologii produkcji 32nm. Nowe procesory z rodziny Core i5 oraz i3 wyposażone zostaną w technologie takie jak TURBO Boost, Hyper-Threading, a w procesorze zintegrowany będzie układ graficzny Intel HD Graphics. Wg mnie to ma za mało pamieci na KDE czy nawet na Gnome.
2 GiB? chyba waść żartujesz biorąc pod uwagę, że to tylko 10 cali i raczej pamięciożernych programów się tam nie uruchamia. Powiem więcej, gdyby nie procesor to i vista by poszła z przeglądarką i playerem jakimś, a co dopiero gnome czy kde.
2 gb mają sens – pamięć nie jest droga, a więcej ramu zawsze się przyda – nie trzeba będzie używać pamięci swap.
Swap może szybko wykończyć "dysk" SSD. Zapewne wykorzystali wszystkie możliwe sposoby na wyeliminowanie ryzyka ostrego swapowania, z wrzuceniem dwóch giga pamięci włącznie.

GNOME ruszy bezproblemowo na 256 MB RAM, a prawdopodobnie nawet na 128MB.
KDE ruszy bezproblemowo na 512MB.

Co prawda udalo mi sie odpalic GNOME(4 lata temu) na kompie p2 350MHz, 64MB RAM na zoptynmalizowanym PLD i686, to wiem ze nawet dzisiejsze XFCE nie dziala dobrze na nim z 192MB RAM. Mam tez pare innych mocniejszych maszyn, i naprawde 512MB to jest minimum by GNOME mogl dzialac wiecej niz dzien, nie zapominajac ze nasze geckowato/webkitowe buildy do dzis maja mniejsze lub wieksze wycieki pamieci. Pozatym maszyny wirtualne/interpretery Pythona/Javy oraz Mono ktore wpuscilismy do GNOME/KDE takze robia swoje. Juz nie wspominajac o Beagle/Strigi/Trackerze.
Dobrze pamietam czasy jak Mandrake 8.0(Czy moze 6?) z zarowno GNOME jak i KDE smigaly na p166MMX/16MB RAM (tak, 16 mega!). No, ale chcielismy miec nowoczesny system (z nowymi jezykami, gdzie w tle caly czas chodza HALe, udevy/beagle i masa innych rzeczy automatyzujaca wszystko), to mamy system ciezszy parokrotnie niz Windows XP (choc fakt ze nie mamy takich wyciekow pamieci[nie liczac przegladarek) i nie musimy restartowacx go co pare dni], to mamy cosmy chcieli. I dzialanie GNOME + gecko,a nawet XFCE na athlonie z 1GB RAM.
I nawet dzis na T60p z 4GB RAM i c2d uzywam WMakera, poniewaz nie kupuje sprzetu bo ty by OS/DE go "wykorzystal", lecz by cala jego moc obliczeniowa byla wykorzystywana przez zlecone przeze mnie zadania, niezaleznie czy do kompilacja, (de)kodowanie filmow, czy jeszcze cos innego. A jak nic nie robi, to po co ma zrec prad(nawet migajacy kursor w xterm'ie powoduje wychodzenie z C4, polecam 'powertop'), a przypadku laptopa skracac dzialanie na baterii.
Tymbardziej dziwi mnie podejscie przecietnych uzyszkodnikow, poniewaz to zwykle gracze '3D', krozy wylaczaja VSync wierzac ze gra szybciej chodzi(czyt renderuje klatki do /dev/null), ale nie interesuja sie juz czym jest kompozytor(np compiz) i ile im zabiera RAM/VRAM(pamiec GPU – chyba wazne), oraz firefox z flashem, ktory zre conajmniej 20% jednego rdzenia.

Ostatnio resetowalem (brak pradu) Windows XP – 20 dni temu:)
Niedawno pisałem przy jakimś wątku, że mój roboczy (bardzo roboczy) t41p z windows XP miał uptime ładnych kilka miesięcy (bodaj SZEŚĆ, chyba od maja br. do listopada br.) zanim zdecydowałem się go zrestartować.
Ciekawe rzeczy opowiadasz. Właśnie piszę z laptopa z 2GB pamięci, a powiem ci, że te 2GB to aż nadto – Ubuntu 9.10 po instalacji zajmuje w RAM coś ok 200MB. A ostatnio zrobiłem ciekawy eksperyment. Wygrzebałem starego PC-ta Duron 800Mhz z 384MB RAM-u i postawiłem na nim Ubuntu 9.10. Po wyłączeniu zbędnych usług system zajmuje w pamięci ok 80M. Ot taka ciekawostka
Podam żywy przykład: aktualnie siedzę na NetBSD(amd64) z środowiskiem KDE4 z jakimiś bajerami na pulpicie, mam otwartą przeglądarkę z 4-ma kartami. System zajmuje 387 mb i 0 mb swap-a.
Żeby to miało jakąś funkcjonalność, to będą musieli umówić się z Adobe i przeportować flasha na ARM na przykład.
Pewnie do tego dojdzie i tu pytanie: czy będzie się to dało zainstalować na innych linuksach? Jeśli tak, to nic tylko kupować te cacko, stawiać zwykłego pingwinka i mamy maszynkę, jak marzenie.:)
Chociaż podejrzewam, że o sprzętowym wsparciu dla dekodowania filmów HD będziemy mogli zapomnieć.
dekodowanie filmów HD zajmie się tegra, która (teoretycznie) powinna po prostu używać nvidiowego sterownika… a my robimy tylko:

Z serii złych wiadomości: układ firmy NVidia ma sprzętowe wsparcie dla dekodowania jedynie własnościowych formatów wideo, zaś jako CPU jest dalej żałośnie wolny w porównaniu ze standardami pecetowymi (i to nie dzisiejszymi a historycznymi) i może mieć problemy z dekodowaniem Theory
Tylko czy wspierający dekodowanie zamkniętych kodeków sterownik nvidii pojawi się na zwykłego linuksa? Jądro googlowego systemu podobno ma się trochę różnić od aktualnego na kernel.org, a nvidia wcale nie musi zapewniać binarki wszystkim.
Ale zazwyczaj robi – patrz lista na stronie nVidii. Nawet do Itanium zrobili.
już teraz wydaje (przynajmniej u mnie działa), a tegra to zwykły gf 9400m z tego co się orientuję, więc dużo roboty z tym nie będzie.

oO: I tu sie mylisz, bo akurat nVidia dostarcza sterownik w postaci binarki z wrapperem(ktory dowiazuje po prostu funkcje do biezaco uzywanego jajka), i wedlug Stallmana jak najbardziej lamie GPL!
Mysle, ze dla Adobe ta operacja nie kosztowala by wiecej niz ./configure && make, gdyz dzialajacy Linuksowy Flash Player dla ARM11 jest chociazby na Nokii N810.
Czym tu się jarać? Wg newsa "została opublikowana przypuszczalna specyfikacja netbooka"… Czyli coś w stylu: "Hej, napiszmy jakie widzielibyśmy parametry w netbuku gugla, to będziemy mieli więcej klikashy"… Jeżeli tak to wygląda, to po co cała dyskusja?
Arm to risc , do tego w tej architekturze są modele procesorów różniące się od siebie instrukcjami więc tak różowo nie będzie .
Jednak mimo to zmusi to intela do poprawy i stanienia atomóworaz rozszerzy listę programów na arm . Może też doczekamy się jakiegoś dobrego bsd-ka na armowe netbooki ?
Chcialbym kupic netbooka.. kompletnie nie wiem jakiego wybrac Google pomoglo by mi.. poniewaz wybor bylby mniejszy:D Tak samo jak nie wiedzialem jaki telefon wybrac to zwezilem wybor do telefonow na dwie karty SIM:)
Osobiście wątpię w prawdziwość tej specyfikacji. Różnica pomiędzy platformą Atoma a ARMmową to z tego, co pamiętam to jakieś $20. Nijak nie da się z tego pokryć lepszej jakości matrycy, ekranu dotykowego, większej ilości ramu, całkiem sporego dysku SSD i modułów GPS i modemu 3g.
nie bierzesz pod uwagę iż owe 300USD może być ceną wersji podstawowej która wcale nie musi posiadać wszystkich wymienionych bajerów.
Nie bierzesz pod uwagę czasu pracy tych procesorów na takiej samej baterii. ARM w tej kategorii króluje od dawna, a atomy mogą się schować.

W zakresie zastosowań do jakiego netbooki są przewidziane (przeglądarka, odtwarzacz, komunikator i notatnik) mają taki nadmiar mocy, że nie odczujesz żadnej różnicy ani pomiędzy 1,5GHz a 3GHz, ani pomiędzy 1GB a 4GB (chyba, że załatasz sobie jądro agresywną polityką oszczędzania energii. W tedy 2 GB są niemal niezbędne, a 3 są lepsze niż 2)
Za to radzę zwrócić uwagę na czas pracy baterii i pancerność obudowy. Zakładam, że netbook nie służy do używania w dobrych warunkach.

Dałem za mojego PC 850zł, miał 1GB (dopóki nie dokupiłem kolejnego), miał zintegrowanego Intela.. oczywiście bez dotykowego ekranu (dokupiłem CRT Gatewaya za 100), bez WiFi, bez kamerki, i bez czytnika kart pamięci.
Czyli jest stary =( Ale Assassin's Creed chodzi, czego nie można powiedzieć o netbooku >D
A tak serio, macie racje, każdy może zainstalować własny system. Ja osobiście wgrałbym MilkyTrackera – świetnie by się komponował z dotykowym ekranem.
