Termin wydania trzeciej wersji projektu GNOME został przesunięty na wrzesień roku 2010.
Ekipa odpowiadająca za rozwój projektu GNOME postanowiła opóźnić wydanie trzeciej wersji środowiska. Początkowy termin, którym był marzec 2010, został zamieniony na wrzesień 2010. Marzec nie został jednak pogrzebany, z racji, iż to całkiem fajny miesiąc, wydana zostanie w czasie jego trwania wersja 2.30.
Jak zapewniają twórcy, data wydania wersji 3.0 nie wpłynie w żadnym stopniu na stabilność wydania 2.30, a wręcz przeciwnie, pomoże zespołowi w integracji zmian, które są gotowe dla wersji 2.30.
Vincent Untz tłumaczy na liście dyskusyjnej, iż wydawanie nowej wersji GNOME co pół roku nie jest zasadą, od której nie można odejść. Nie jest to na stałe wpisane w kanon. Społeczność oczekuje od wersji 3.0 naprawdę wiele, zatem ekipa rozwijająca środowisko zdecydowała, iż wrzesień 2010 będzie lepszym terminem, pozwalającym dokonać wszystkich zamierzonych celów, aby nie zawieść użytkowników.
Warto nadmienić, iż pomysł na stworzenie GNOME 3.0 pojawił się po raz pierwszy w 2008 roku.

Dobrze że opóźniają, bo ja na przykład bym się zawiódł, gdyby wydali coś takiego jak na ostatnich zrzutach ekranu.

Zaraz flejmiarz. Odrobinę prawdy w tym jest, jeśli Gnome wychodzi to zazwyczaj jest stabilne. Z KDE już dawno się pogubiłem, jeśli ktoś jest mi w stanie odpowiedzieć, która wersja jest stabilna oficjalnie i praktycznie będę wdzięczny.

ja np. pod 4.2 chyba jestem lama, bo nie umiem guzika/launchera

A u mnie działa 4.3.3, bez żadnych problemów. Dodam, że 4.2 również działało bezproblemowo.
Na marginesie, używałem przez chwilę Gnome i też działało bezproblemowo (to tak żeby nikt się nie czepiał).
Trudno się nie zgodzić, ale jak mam spojrzeć co będzie fajniejsze za te 2-3 lata to raczej nie mam wątpliwości, że KDE.
KDE 3.5 było mega stabilne, nie widzę powodu, dla którego KDE 4.5 by też nie mogło. W sumie to z 4.3.3 jest już nieźle.
Fajniejsze dla ciebie, GNOME i KDE to jednak kompletnie inna filozofia, przede wszystkim w kwestii interfejsu. Czy trzeba coś tu wyjaśniać?
Nie do końca. Będzie to całkiem coś innego. Oczywiście, że planują stworzyć coś na wzór Nepomuka, lecz będzie to w zasadzie tylko namiastką.
Dodatkowo GNOME3 ma prezentować całkowicie inne podejście do tworzenia środowiska graficznego, jak integrację paneli z menadżerem okien(zespół chce ograniczyć ilość zajmowanego miejsca przez elementy menadżera okien, by środowisko lepiej sprawowało się na małych ekranach). Zespół KDE nie obrał takiej drogi.
To jest tylko mały przykład tego, co nie ma KDE4, a prawdopodobnie zagości w GNOME3. Ja i tak wolę KDE4.
Wiem że wolisz KDE, warto jednak wspomnieć, że jest taki projekt w KDE 4 jak plasma-mobile i jest on aktywny.
Chyba Plasma Netbook. Co najważniejsze już istnieje i działa bardzo sprawnie.
Zespół KDE obrał lepszą drogę. Normalny interfejs + interfejs dla małych ekranów.

Na myśl rzuca mi się od razu, że cały GNOME jest w każdym możliwym detalu "ograniczany", co by przypadkiem użytkownik nie miał zbyt dużej możliwość wyboru. Dlatego też nie odpowiada mi filozofia Gnome i wole do jeden akcji mieć "szebernaście" możliwośći wyboru, co daje mi z kolei KDE.
Nie piszę to w formie flejma (dziękuje za minusy od pieniaczy), bo nie twierdze, że to jest zło ogólne, tylko dla mnie jest to zupełnie inne bajka. Korzystałem z Gnome przez pół roku w oczekiwaniu na KDE 4.0 (po 5 latach korzystania z 3.x) i pomimo, że Gnome po personalizacji nawet nieźle wyglądał, to po tygodniu mi się znudził, bo tam nic nie można było zmienić/ponad to, co zaplanował programista projektu. KDE daje mi pod tym względem więcej możliwośći…bo i programista przewiduje więcej możliwości wyboru
To jest też sposób myślenia. Kiedyś pisałem z kumplem skrypty dla zabawy do konwertowania mp3 na inne formaty itp (tak, żeby wycisnąc ile się da z BASHA). On był użytkownikiem GNOME ja KDE. Po ukończonej pracy, oba skrypty robiły dokładnie to samo, z tym, że jego miał mniej opcji, sztywny bitrate itp. (typowy pragmatyzm). Mój natomiast miał wiele opcji dodatkowych (możliwośc ustawienia bitrate i wiele innych opcji z lame, tak, aby każdy mógł miec wybór co chce robić), co również wiązało się z tym, że ja miałem więcej linijek kodu

Tak, więc widać, że wybór WM`a ma głębsze podłoże psychologiczne
Lub też wcześniejszy wybór WM`a ma wpływa na nasz sposób myślenia 
Wydanie GNOME 3.0 w marcu 2010 od początku nie wydawało mi się realne. Z resztą trudno mówić tu o opóźnieniu, skoro dotąd mówiło się, że właśnie teraz ma być podjęta decyzja czy GNOME 3.0 będzie w marcu czy wrześniu. Nikt nie upierał się od początku, że to będzie marzec 2010. Z obu najbardziej widocznych nowości – GNOME Shell i Zeitgeist (czy Activity Journal, trochę to skomplikowane…) używałem już tego pierwszego i na upartego mógłbym używać go dalej. To chyba niezły wynik, jak na tak wczesny etap rozwoju. Zwłaszcza że niestabilności nie stwierdziłem, a zużycie zasobów jest zaskakująco niskie.
Niech jeszcze canonical pójdzie do rozum do głowy i przestanie tak kategroycznie przestrzegać swojego planu wydawniczego…
Myślę że mówienie o "Canonical" i "planie" w jednym zdaniu to nadużycie
Mnie denerwuje, iż żaden z zespołów nie wpadł na zaprojektowanie tak API aktywności, by stało się możliwe integracja z innymi narzędziami. Świetne byłoby, gdyby program samemu mógł informować o stanie działania, np. zakończono z niepowodzeniem, przerwano, wznowiono, zakończono z powodzeniem, wykonywane, rozpoczęto. Można by też dodać możliwość zwrócenia list rezultatów, np. plików. Pozwoliłoby to w prosty sposób zarządzać komputerem, np. po pobraniu zakończeniu(z powodzeniem lub bez) pobierania filmu, wyłącz komputer. Wystarczyłoby kliknąć na specjalną do tego celu stworzoną ikonkę w tray-u lub w oknie aplikacji, by wywołać odpowiedni menadżer.
Jakie najbardziej widoczne zmiany są planowane w Gnome 3.0? Gnoma nie używam od dłuższego czasu, casami tylko rzucę okiem na nowe Ubuntu livecd.
Numerek 3.0 sugeruje, że zmiany mają być bardziej widoczne niż w linii 2.x.
Chodzi tylko o Gnome Shell?
Jeszcze Zeitgeist, choć tym jakoś mniej wszędzie się chwalą, więc trzeba poczekać. Na planecie GNOME często też można poczytać o większej integracji z Trackerem. Poza tym bardziej widocznych rewolucji nie będzie i całe szczęście, od rewolucji niech będzie KDE.
Gnome 2.2x był "dla idiotów", ale widzę, że 3 będzie wręcz "opóźniony"
To było fajne środowisko. Szkoda, że w designie stawiają teraz na rzekomy kretynizm użytkowników.
Na szczęście odkryłem KDE (obecnie 3, niedługo upgrade do 4) i jestem z niego bardzo zadowolony.
Tak więc sprawy Gnome to już nie mój problem, więc nie będę się rozpisywał.
Ktoś wie, czy w Gnome3 zwiększą się wymagania sprzętowe? Od 2 lat siedzę na Gnome i jest mi tu bardzo wygodnie. Trochę się obawiam zmian w Gnome3, bo nie chcę się znowu uczyć nowego środowiska, tak jak Kde3 i Kde4 – to dwa zupełnie różne środowiska, jedno do drugiego niepodobne. Mam nadzieję, że się odnajdę w nowym Gnome3. Jeśli nie, to zostanę przy starym, które z pewnością będzie jakiś czas jeszcze wspierane po wydaniu Gnome3:)
Już teraz GNOME Shell jest bardzo intuicyjne, "dla idiotów" jak tu piszą niektórzy fanboye KDE. Wymagania sprzętowe mogą się zwiększyć o tyle, że Shell wymaga jednak karty graficznej, która pociągnęłaby równie dobrze Compiza. Poza tym już teraz jest szybkie i zajmuje mało pamięci (jakby to miało jakieś znaczenie…).
To żaden wymóg – compiz to mi chodził (pięknie i bezproblemowo) na athlonie 1200, 512 MB RAM i GeForce 4 MX440 (czyli wydajnościowo GeForce 2).
Jeżeli nowy Gnome ma wymagać aż GeForce 2, to proszę bardzo.

W takim razie nie ma problemu, wiem tylko że na moim staaaarym kompie z prehistorycznym Intelem i810 Shell by nie poszedł. No ale przecież nikt nie twierdzi, że GNOME ma środowiskiem przeznaczonym dla kompów z wykopalisk.
Ja natomiast nie jestem przekonany do środowisk, które wymagają akceleratorów OpenGL i efektów specjalnych do wyświetlania zwyczajnego GUI: powoduje to straszne marnotrawstwo przepustowości przy pracy zdalnej, utrudnia wirtualizację i wprowadza szereg problemów przy centralizacji aplikacji biurowych na serwerach, których (za wyjątkiem Xserve) nie wyposaża się w akceleratory grafiki
Czy w tym nowym Gnome 3 będzie kołowe menu, bo kiedyś czytałem że było takie w planach własnie w wersji 3,0? Choć już nie uzywam Gnome ,a było moim pierwszym środowiskiem graficznym, zawsze mi się podobało, było najbardziej stabilne. Potem Xfce i Kde3,5.Ogólnie siedzę na menadzerze okien.Jest jeszcze co prawda nowe lekkie Lxde ale to najmlodsze jest mimo że bazuje na Openbox z dodatkami. Oby tylko Gnome nie kierowali w kierunku kde4>. Bo Gnome już się prawie zrównało i było tak lekkie jak Xfce4, więc mniej wodotrysków więcej stabilnosci i minimalizacja:)
Raczej Xfce zrobiło się tak ciężkie jak Gnome…
Mam nadzieję, że Gnome 3 się nie załapie do Red Hata 6 i to opóźnienie mi się podoba. Nie, żebym coś miał co Shella, ale jeszcze kilka lat bym posiedział na starym. Tak to jest jak się człowiek przyzwyczai.

Zachęcam do obejrzenia bo to ciekawe udogodnienie.Wg mnie lekko przypomina efekty z Mac'a jak np. samo przenoszenie okien miedzy obszarami roboczymi z poziomu przeglądania wszystkich aktywnych obszarów. Postaram sie przetestowac Gnome Shell i w najblizszym czasie dac recenzje z pracy na takim srodowisku widziane oczami zwykłego kowalskiego.
