W styczniu pisaliśmy w niusie Internet Explorer 8 i jego trzy twarze, że kolejne wersja przeglądarki Microsoftu będzie zgodna ze standardami, ale tylko na żądanie. Decyzją Microsoftu stanie się jednak odwrotnie — będzie na żądanie niekompatybilna z W3C.

Nowa wersja IE będzie interpretować strony w jedynym z trzech trybów – pełnej, ścisłej i nietolerancyjnej zgodności z obecnymi branżowymi standardami, zgodności z microsoftową interpretacją standardów według IE7 z roku 2006 oraz trybu kompatybilności ze starymi standardami z początków sieci WWW. Pierwotnie domyślnym trybem miał być tryb zgodności z interpretacją standardów według Microsoftu, argumentowano to koniecznością zapewnienia kompatybilności z wieloma dostępnymi obecnie w sieci witrynami napisanymi często kulawym, rozumianym wyłącznie przez IE językiem.

Domyślna zgodność ze standardami sieciowymi jest najbardziej oczywistym założeniem funkcjonowania przeglądarki internetowej. Owszem, też się cieszę że Microsoft dąży do przywrócenia swojemu IE funkcjonalności przeglądarki internetowej, lecz z ich zapowiedzi nie wyciągałbym wniosku o zgodności ze standardami sieciowymi. Z tego co wiem, IE8 ma przejść test Acid2, lecz to jeszcze nie przesądza o zgodności ze standardami. Do uznania IE za przeglądarkę internetową potrzebna jest jeszcze spełnienie wymagań jeszcze wielu innych norm aniżeli arkusze stylów. Np. ciekawi mnie jakość interpretowania przez IE8 dokumentów XHTML serwowanych z typem application/xhtml+xml.

Ja tam nie wierze w to, ze Microsoft moze cos zrobic dobrze (moze poza wlasna reklama). A nawet jesli moj sceptycyzm okaze sie byc na wyrost, tym lepiej dla wszystkich.
Konkurencja go zmusi do tego. Jeszcze kiedyś będziemy chwalili produkty tej firmy (ja sobie bardzo chwalę Age Of Empires

Cóż, trzeba powiedzieć że produkty jak Word, Excel czy Active Directory to produkty udane, nie ma co:P
muszę się zgodzić. Office M$ jest najlepszym tego typu dostępnym rozwiązaniem na rynku – przynajmniej z tych, które znam. Choć bardzo interesujący jest pakiet iWork
Okropny ten Micro$oft ostatnio się zrobił – specyfikacje dotychczas zamkniętych formatów plików upublicznił, IE ze standardami W3C zgodnym uczynił a Window$ stabilnym i nie wieszającym się bez powodu …. to na pewno jest jakiś spisek
teraz sie mowi uklad ;p
I tak bedzie kolejny problem bo trzeba bedzie teraz robic strony przynajmniej pod 6 (7?) przegladarek: IE6,7,8 FF2 i 3, Opera 9.2x (nie wiem jak 9.5 ma sie do wczesniejszych).
W założeniu IE8/FF2-3/Opera9x będą wszystkie stosować najnowsze W3C więc nie powinno być problemu z pisaniem pod nie stron.
Wystarczy zrobić dodatkowo wersję dla IE6/IE7, jeśli klient będzie tego wymagał.
IMHO jednak znaczący krok do przodu!
Krok do przodu, o ile faktycznie to zrobią i nie będzie jakichś zmian decyzji albo haczyków. Poczekamy, zobaczymy, choć tu akurat jestem ostrożnym optymistą, bo na polu przeglądarek istnieje już bat – realna konkurencja.
Tylko czekać jak za pół roku pojawi się news:

15 lat temu zaśmiałbyś się w twarz osobie mówiącej, że IBM będzie firmą wspierającą interoperacyjność i otwarte standardy.
Jeden serwis napisze nieściśle i wszyscy powtarzają. Sprawa będzie wyglądała następująco:
1) Absolutnie domyslnym sposobem wyświetlania stron pozostanie quirks mode.
2) Gdy strona posiada DOCTYPE, IE8 będzie wyświetlało stronę swoim własnym, najnowszym, względnie porządnym silnikiem
3) Gdy strona posiada DOCTYPE oraz przełącznik do działania w trybie IE7, wtedy IE8 zastosuje silnik IE7.
Chodzi o to, że bardzo stare dokumenty napisane na "odczep się" bez DOCTYPE nadal będą się prawidłowo wyświetlać.
EDIT:
W innych miejscach oryginalnego tekstu rzeczywiście podkreśla się, że tryb zgodności ze standardami ma być domyślnym. Teraz już faktycznie się zakręciłem i nie wiem czego się spodziewać po IE8. Niby ten tryb ma być default, a zacytowany przeze mnie tekst sugeruje, ze nie zupełnie default, a tylko dla tych stron, które zarządzają "Standards mode"
Oczywiście, chodzi o strony z poprawnie zadeklarowanym DOCTYPE. To jakby oczywista oczywistość. Jeśli strona nie ma DOCTYPE nie opłaca się zwykle nawet próbować stosować do niej miary takiej jak do prawidłowo napisanych stron.

Byłby to ogromny krok naprzód. W końcu możnaby było nie istalować ie4linux ;]. Szczerze mówiąc to ja się zastanawiam ile w tym prawdy, a ile technik marketingowych.

Sam niedawno stawiałem swoją stronę na Drupalu i kurcze wszystko ładnie działało i wyglądało tak, jak miało wyglądać, we wszystkich przeglądarkach, tylko nie w IE! Ale, zamiast dłubać w kodzie itp (na czym się za bardzo nie znam), umieściłem na stronie informacje o cudownym działaniu IE i dałem link do Firefoxa

Tylko, że nadal problemem jest to, że przeglądarka jest zintegrowana z systemem operacyjnym, przez co moim skromnym zdaniem nie spowoduje spadku popularności Firefoksa.
A z tego co pamiętam to, WLM 9 ma obsługiwać Jabbera.
Google Talk ma obsługiwać. I nikt nie wie w jaki sposób, czy wewnątrz klienta czy też po stronie serwera (jak tranport Jabbera).
A sam Google Talk to jeszcze nie cały Jabber (na szczęście)
