Po trzech miesiącach od wersji 3.0 zostało wypuszczone kolejne wydanie Rockboksa, otwartego systemu operacyjnego dla odtwarzaczy multimedialnych.
Nowa wersja zawiera wiele poprawek i nowych funkcji:
- zmiana rozmiaru okładek albumów (już nie trzeba tego robić na komputerze 
)
- radio FM na odtwarzaczu Gigabeat S
- programowa kontrola podświetlenia ekranu na odtwarzaczach nieobsługujących sprzętowej regulacji jasności
- konfigurowalne opcje w „QuickScreen”
- wtyczka kalendarza na wszystkich urządzeniach z zegarem czasu rzeczywistego
- konfigurowalny tryb nangrywania monofonicznego
- wsparcie dla nowej wersji logów last.fm
- zoptymalizowane odtwarzanie Monkey’s Audio
- zoptymalizowane odtwarzanie MP3 na układach z procesorami dwurdzeniowymi

SoC PortalPlayer ma dwa rdzenie ARM-owe i w np. Sansach c200 trzyma 16 godzin ciągłego odtwarzania MP3.

EDIT @ 13:43 – po krótkiej rozmowie na #rockbox-community dowiedziałem się, że "odtwarzacze z procesorami dwurdzeniowymi" to poprawne określenie.
Niemniej e200v1 żre w cholere prądu jeżeli jest włączony non stop wyświetlacz lcd, c200v1 chyba też ;p
ale to że wyświetlacz żre prąd chyba nie zależy od tego, że ma procesor dwurdzeniowy. Swoją drogą nie wiem co jest do minusowania w wypowiedziach z tego "drzewka"
Minusowane są wypowiedzi, które nie wnoszą niczego nowego i można podejrzewać, że wypowiadający się nie wie o czym mówi.
Np. Twoja pierwsza wypowiedź nie wnosi absolutnie nic.
Jeśli to było autentyczne zdziwienie, to takie puste wypowiedzi tylko zaśmiecają wątek.
Jeśli to była ironia, to w bardzo złym miejscu. Tak się składa, że pliki MP3 nie dekodują się same i są potrzebne do tego procesory. Podobnie jest z OSem itp. i tak się składa, że DAP pobiera mniej prądu, gdy się wykorzystuje oba rdzenie (np. w odtwarzaczach z układami PortalPlayera takich jak iPody). Po prostu obsługa dwóch rdzeni umożliwia lepsze zarządzanie mocą – np. obniżanie taktowania itd.
Oczywiście innym polem do oszczędzania energii jest wyświetlacz (wyłączenie, mniejsza jasność), optymalizacja obsługi pamięci – zwłaszcza twardego dysku itd – natomiast jedno nie przeszkadza drugiemu.
Tak się składa, że Rockboksem interesuję się od lat i sądząc po swoich pozytywnych doświadczeniach z nim na iPodzie uważam, że jego twórcy mają więcej do powiedzenia na temat obsługi odtwarzaczy od Ciebie.
co do ostatniego akapitu skąd ten atak na moją osobę? przecież nigdzie napisałem, że wiem więcej, bądź że jestem nieomylny, a tak to było zdziwienie, a komentarze raczej służą do wyrażania swoich opinii i tam też wyraziłem me zdziwienie.

Przemyśl dokładnie do czego będzie Ci ten odtwarzacz potrzebny – gdzie, jak i jak często i długo będziesz z niego korzystał, jak szerokie jest spektrum muzyki, której słuchasz, ile masz płyt (tak, jestem staromodny, ale wciąż kupuję płyty, zwłaszcza jeśli mogę bezpośrednio od wykonawcy czy dystrybutora), jaki rozmiar jest dopuszczalny a jaki pożądany itd.
Od tego zależeć będą podstawowe wybory: HDD czy flash, rozmiar odtwarzacza, rozmiar ekranu, cena. Do tego dochodzą kwestie estetyczne, dostępności produktu i czy Rockbox na nim chodzi albo pójdzie w bliskiej przyszłości.
Dobra rada dla gros kupujących – nie warto patrzeć na "bajery". Jeśli np. nie jeździsz często i gęsto pociągiem, to i tak nie będziesz oglądał na DAPie filmów, a gry (nawet Doom
) pewnie Ci się znudzą. Fakt, trzy lata temu filmiki i teledyski z iPoda były killerem na spotkaniach towarzyskich :> ale to już się chyba przejadło.
Pomyśl, czy słuchasz radia. Ja jestem wierny Trójce i musiałem sprowadzić sobie do iPoda pilota z radiem, który nie należy do tanich (to ogólny problem z dodatkami do produktów Apple).
Dodatkowo z Rockboksem masz tai problem, że większość obsługiwanych urządzeń już chyba wyszła z produkcji. :S Ostatnim obsługiwanym iPodem jest "5,5G" – 30 i 80GB video oraz Nano _pierwsza_ generacja. To niezłe odtwarzacze, mimo wyjścia z produkcji dawno temu niektóre sklepy próbują je jeszcze sprzedać. :] Gdybyś znalazł je w _dobrej_ cenie, może byłbyś zadowolony. :]
O ile mi wiadomo, twórcy Rockboksa osobiście preferują inne platformy – ale na Archosach, SanDiskach i Toshibach (tych obsługiwanych) się nie znam. AFAIR taka Toshiba ma znacznie większą moc obliczeniową od iPoda.. nie wiem jak z dostępnością czy poborem prądu.
Co do estetyki, jakości dźwięku itd. – są portale i musisz sam potestować. Ja chwilowo jeszcze niczego nowego nie kupuję, więc chyba nie pomogę.
Aha – obserwuj wątek New Ports na forum Rockboksa. Wprawdzie droga jeszcze daleka, ale szykuje się parę portów na "współczesne" platformy.
