Ponad dwa miesiące temu pisaliśmy o nowej gałęzi dystrybucji Sabayon Linux oznaczonej numerem 5. (O tym można przeczytać tutaj). 12 grudnia 2009 roku na serwerach pojawiła się kolejna wersja tej dystrybucji – Sabayon Linux 5.1.
Jakie zmiany w dystrybucji? Jedna z istotnych zmian dotyczy wersji ze środowiskiem GNOME, w której zastosowano nowy sposób zarządzania pulpitem GNOME-SHELL (dostępny w wersji DVD, istnieje jednak możliwość instalacji przy pomocy systemu pakietów Entropia). Ponadto zaktualizowano środowisko KDE do wersji 4.3.4, a liczba wszystkich zaktualizowanych pakietów wynosi ponad 4000. Poprawiono także szereg błędów zgłoszonych przez użytkowników, które pojawiły się w wersji 5.0.

Wszystkie autorskie niusy w serwisie publikowane są na licencji Creative Commons Uznanie autorstwa 2.5 Polska.
Ilość gotowych paczek nie imponuje. Czasem też potrzebujemy nowszej wersji danej paczki. Więc musimy zmiksować entropy z portage, nawet jeśli zrobimy to bezbłędnie, mogą się pojawić problemy.
Chciałem sobie zrobić raz w ten sposób, że zainstaluję tylko system podstawowy z fluxboxem i w całości przejdę na portage, ale niestety mimo wybrania opcji zainstalowania tylko podstawki, zainstalowała mi się cały kde-desktop.
P.S. Moja uwaga tyczy się wersji 5.0
Przyznam, że używam Entropii i Portage w zależności od potrzeby, nie ma żadnych problemów ze współpracą obu systemów trzeba tylko ustawić odpowiednio opcje Entropii, żeby współpraca przebiegała pomyślnie.
To jest fakt, że Sabayon instaluje zbyt wiele i nie wszystko to co jest potrzebne, do takiej operacji zrobienia wszystkiego od podstaw polecam bardziej CoreCD. Myśle, że za jakiś czas pojawi się wersja 5 CoreCD, póki co można to samo zrobić z wersją 4.2 CoreCD. Wtedy naprawdę masz tylko to co potrzebne do uruchomienia systemu a potem można resztę instalować w zależności od potrzeb.
Czyli jeszcze nie pogodzili portów z paczkami . A szkoda bo takie rozwiązanie jest dla mnie optymalne . Mniej istotne programy instalujemy z paczek a najistotniejsze kompilujemy .
Oprócz Sabayona fajną dystrybucją z rodziny Gentoo jest rosyjski Calculate Linux – wczoraj zainstalowałem najnowszą wersję 10.0 z KDE na pokładzie – już na poziomie instalacji można ustawić sobie język polski i polską klawiaturę – wszystkich zainteresowanych odsyłam tu : http://www.calculate-linux.org/Main_Page – niestety ta strona ma tylko dwie wersje językowe : rosyjską i angielską, ale nie powinno być kłopotów ze zrozumieniem tematyki, szczególnie dla tych co lubią Gentoo
Tylko napisz jeszcze co w niej jest ciekawego i jak się sprawuje na laptopach. Sabayon wyśmienicie śmigał mi, ale jednak jest niedopracowany (paczki i Portage mi się kłóciły).
Wysil się troszkę i sam sobie sprawdź.
Jest to wersja LiveDVD, tak więc wypalasz to, bootujesz z płyty
i sprawdzasz co ci działa. Kernel jest chyba budowany przy pomocy
genkernela, tak więc przy starcie wykrywa co jest potrzebne i
ładuje odpowiednie moduły. Na płycie jest więcej programów
niż ma sabayon, wszystko dość dobrze spolszczone i okodekowane.
Zeby paczki i Portage sie nie klocily trzeba zrobic dwie rzeczy:
1. Po kazdej kompilacji z Portage wykonac 'equo database gentoosync' czyli poinformowac baze paczek ze cos zostalo zrobione przez Portage.
2. W /etc/entropy/client.conf w opcji ignore-spm-downgrades zamiast disable dac enable, co pozwala na utrzymanie nowszych paczek z Portage niz w Entropii

. Nie mniej Sabayon nie jest dojrzałą dystrybucją, ma kilka takich właśnie pierdółek, które powodują, że użytkownik musi poszukać, pomyśleć, zmienić.
Inna popularna dystrybucja zainstalowana na komputerze siostry, nie ruszana, aktualizowana nieregularnie działa ok roku nie ruszana. Nic się dzieje.
Nie chcę tu wywoływać żadnej wojny, sam kibicuje Sabayon'owi, bardzo mi się on podoba, ale jednak jeszcze developer'y muszą popracować nad nim.
Na pewno masz racje, mysle ze wspolpraca z Portage jest niejako wymuszona ogromna iloscia pakietow dostepnych w tym systemie, ilosc pakietow w Entropii jest ciagle jeszcze niedostatecznie mala. Ale mysle ze Sabayon na pewno jest ciekawa propozycja, mam go na kilku komputerach i wszedzie chodzi bez problemow, byc moze z czasem bedzie dzialac jeszcze lepiej.
Robiłem tak, ale nadal były zgrzyty. Już lepiej pomęczyć się z czystym Gentoo na początku a potem mieć święty spokój.
Nie każdy ma czas i wiedzę, by poświęcić 2 dni na stawianie systemu. Ja chwalę sobie Gentoo, ale kompilacja, to wg. strata czasu, dlatego używam paczek. Siedzę na Ubuntu, ustawiłem po swojemu i działa dość dobrze.
Czy ja wiem czy warto sie tak meczyc ?? na 2 innych komputerach w pracy mam Sabayona postawionego tylko na pakietach z Entropii i wlasciwie wszystko dziala tuz po instalacji bez koniecznosci kompilacji czegokolwiek z Portage.
Ale w sumie chyba chodzi o to ze kazdy moze sobie wybrac taka dystrybucje ktora mu 'lezy' najlepiej i dziala bezproblemowo.
No i to właśnie jest piękne w Linuksie!
No, w linuxie to mam wybór, czy chcę używać OpenOffica
skompilowanego przez deweloperów sabayona, mandrivy
czy może gentoo.
Gdyby tak 'skomplikowanych' wyborów musieli dokonywać ludzie
na windowsie, no bo każdy program dostępny byłby w kilkudziesięciu niczym się nieróżniących wersjach to pecetom pewnie by groziła zagłada.
Przyklad troche dziwny bo jak instalujesz np. Sabayona to jakos nie masz specjalnie wyboru instalacji OpenOffice'a z Mandrivy
Ale rozumiem ze sugerujesz, ze najlepiej nie miec wyboru wowczas nie ma problemu z podejmowaniem decyzji co lepsze. No wiec niech tak bedzie, windows dla tych ktorzy wola nie podejmowac decyzji i dostawac jedynie sluszne oprogramowanie, a linux niech bedzie dla tych ktorzy lubia miec wybor 
Nie robmy znowu z uzytkownikow windowsow takich sierotek.
Sabayon to według mnie takie popsute gentoo.
No bo jaki sens ma budowanie oddzielnego repo ze skompilowanym oprogramowaniem?
Przecież portage też umożliwia instalację skompilowanego oprogramowania, a jest pewnie
stabilniejsze od entropi.
Poza tym kompilacja oprogramowania nie jest aż tak czasochłonna jak co niektórzy sugerują,
a według mnie to możliwość dostosowania całego systemu pod swój sprzęt jest największą
zaletą linuxa w stosunku do windowsa.
Szkoda że deweloperzy większości dystrybucji zapomnieli o tej cesze
otwartego oprogramowania, a w zamian próbują stworzyć kiepską namiastkę windowsa.
Sens jest taki, ze nie wszystkim usmiecha sie kilkudniowa instalacja systemu a potrzebuja miec cos od razu, no moze w ciagu najblizszej godziny chociaz od momentu rozpoczecia instalacji.
Do budowania pakietow Entropii wykorzystuje nic innego jak Portage a pakiety sa po prostu dostepne w osobnym repo dla wygody uzytkowania. A wszystkie pakiety sa dostepne w postaci ebuildow w nieoficjalnym repo o nazwie Sabayon, ktore jest automatycznie dodane do Portage. Jesli ktos chce moze kompilowac sobie recznie.
Mozna by dyskutowac o tym ile zyskuje sie czasu kompilujac program recznie w porownaniu do takiego, ktory zostal zainstalowany z paczek. Ale to juz inna historia
