Programiści Nexenty – dystrybucji Debiana opartej na jądrze OpenSolarisa – wydali stabilną wersję 3.0 i oficjalnie zapowiedzieli zmiany w kolejnych wydaniach.
Jak wiadomo Oracle postanowiło porzucić OpenSolarisa kosztem wydań Solaris Express 11 w którym dostęp do kodu źródłowego będzie co najmniej utrudniony. Toteż programiści Nexenty postanowili że kolejne wydania tego systemu będą bazować na otwartym forku tego systemu o nazwie IllumOS, w którym wszystkie zamknięte komponenty OpenSolarisa zostaną zastąpione otwartymi zamiennikami.
Cały proces zostanie przeprowadzony w dwóch etapach:
- Pierwszy etap będzie polegał na przejściu na nowe jądro (IllumOS) które jest już samowystarczalne, po zakończeniu migracji zostanie wydana wersja 3.9.
- Drugi etap będzie polegał na aktualizacji przestrzeni użytkownika do najnowszej wersji dostępnej w Debianie, po jego zakończeniu zostanie wydana NCP 4.0.
Równocześnie można ściągnąć ostatnie wydanie Nexenty bazujące na Oracle OpenSolaris.
Czy nie planowali czasem przesiadki na DragonflyBSD?
To AuroraUX przesiadła się na Dfly .
Nexenta za to od początku była wierna kernelowi Solarisa i przesiedli się na jego nowo powstały fork .
Ciekawą sprawą jest też to że z biegiem czasu jak IllumOS będzie w pełni wolnym dojdzie do ciekawej sytuacji gdzie debian będzie miał aż 3 działające wolne i używalne kernele .
tylko, że HURDa dopiero za lat 20

W to że Hurd wyjdzie poza ciekawy eksperyment nie wierze .

Jak z ilością pakietów i softem na tego debiana?
Oficjalnie wszystkie paczki debiana tam działają w praktyce będzie tego z kilka tysięcy .
Do tego można się wspomóc PKGSRC . Więc tak źle nie jest .
o to odpalę sobie na próbę na vm, może kiedyś zmigruję. Z wielu rzeczy poza repo debianowym nie korzystam, wiec powinno styknąć.

Odnośnie PKGSRC na tym systemie .
Zobaczymy co wyjdzie z illumosa , osobiście życzę im powodzenia gdyż mają naprawdę ciekawy zespół devów ot np. twórce dtrace . I mogą spokojnie przeportowywać z *BSD , Arosa czy Haiku (Zgodność licencyjna).
spawdzałem repo bazuje na ubuntu 8.04 i zawiera ponad 13 tys. pakietów. Mój obecny system w repo ma ponad 30 tys pakietów, ale nie wiadomo jak rozczłonkowane są poszczególne elementy.
Z tego co wiem są w nią „wszyte” bazowe paczki opensolarisa .
Szczerze to nigdy czystej nexenty nie używałem ale mam iso na dysku i przetestuje ją w wolnym czasie .
Odpaliłem, nawet gnome zainstalowałem, niestety braki niektórych pakietów powodują błąd w zależnościach. Ogólnie to takie ubuntu bez konfiguratorów i z innym jądrem, będę śledził rozwój bo zapowiada się ciekawie.
Nie nakręcaj się. Jak testowałem parę lat temu było tak samo.
A czy nie tym właśnie jest Debian ;)?
