Serwis TechIT opublikował szczegółowy instruktarz jak poprawnie zainstalować systemy Windows: XP i Server 2003 na zewnętrznym dysku USB.
Instalacja systemów Windows XP lub Windows Server 2003 na zewnętrznych dyskach USB przebiega podobnie do instalacji systemów Windows Vista i Windows Server 2008 na dyskach USB, z tym, że zmiany w rejestrze co do inicjalizacji magistrali USB musimy dokonać na płytce instalacyjnej.
Z instalacją jest “nieco zabawy”. W grę wchodzi edycja plików konfiguracyjnych oraz rejestru. Trzeba również posłużyć się dodatkowymi programami jak WinISO, pakiet CAB SDK i Nero. Jeśli jednak ktoś nie boi się linii komend, a posiadanie Windowsa na dysku USB jest dla niego kluczowe, poradnik jest godny polecenia.

no cóż… windows to jest w końcu poważny system operacyjny. I przyjazny użytkownikowi. nie to co ten prymitywny linuks, który działa od razu po umieszczeniu nośnika instalacyjnego.
Dla przecietnego uzytkownika mozliwosc instalacji na pendrivie jest "nieco" mniej istotna niz dzialajace wifi albo modem gsm, ze spapranej obslugi ktorych Linux slynie.

o ile z wifi zawsze byly problemy (co jest wina producentow sprzetu, a nie tworcow wolnego oprogramowania), o tyle z gsm problemy moga sie pojawic dopiero w przypadku pci express, zwanego ztcp cardbuss. co nie zmienia faktu ze problem nie lezy w obsludze gsm, a w obsludze nowej szyny…

Problemy z wifi sa wina Linuksa – chociazby ciaglym utrudnianiem przez developerow kernela pisania sterownikow (brak stabilnego ABI) oraz niska popularnoscia, przez ktora producentom nie oplaca sie wysilac.
Próba uruchomienia wprost po instalacji:
Wifi:
Vista – działa
Mandriva(płatna) – działa
OpenSuSe – działa
Ubuntu – działa
Modem UMTS:
Vista – nie działa, zainstalowanie sterowników i programu od operatora się nie powiodło, bo były przestarzałe (do XP). Musiałem szukać w sieci nowszej wersji.
Mandriva – działa
OpenSusSe – działa po zmianach w skrypcie czatu
Ubuntu – działa j.w. + po zmianie w skrypcie inicjującym
W obydwu przypadkach nie było potrzeby łączenia się z internetem.
Bluetooth+komórka jako modem GSM
Vista – nie działa bluetooth (po mimo kilkukrotnych prób nie udało się zainstalować drivera dostarczonego ze sprzętem [Toshiba])
Mandriva – działa
OpenSuSe – działa
Ubuntu – działa
Ten krótki opis moich doświadczeń chyba jednoznacznie pokazuje jak wygląda userprzyjazność Windowsa i Linuksa
Ten Twój opis doświadczeń jest delikatnie mówiąc tendencyjny. Sam przyznałeś, że próbowałeś zainstalować nieaktualne (przeznaczone dla innej wersji Windows) sterowniki. Pod Linuksem też próbujesz użyć moduł z jądra 2.4 z jądrem 2.6?
Sam zwróciłeś na to uwagę: Mandriva, Ubuntu czy OpenSuse oprogramowanie takie JUŻ POSIADAJĄ. tym czasem w Viście jest ono o ile operator je dostarczy.
@Memphis: może dla tego, że sterowników do viśty w ogóle nie ma? Albo przynajmniej nie są dostarczone.

Notabene to co lubię w XP to fakt, że aby połączyć się z internetem trzeba ściągnąć sterowniki ^^
Dziwne ja też mam toshibe i vistę na niej i działa mi na niej każdy sprzęt jaki w lapcioka wpakowali, z XP również nie mam żadnych problemów, ale z linuksem to już było gorzej więc go nie użam (linuksa) no i problemy z softem (brak)

Jeszcze jedno, nie twierdze ze jest to tylko i wylacznie wina systemu, w koncu ciezko wymagac by OS mial wbudowny sterownik do KAZDEGO sprzetu, moj post odnosi sie tylko do wypowiedzi przedmowcy i jego "spapranej obslugi" ;]

Linux prymitywny a Windows przyjazny? Ta wypowiedź woła o pomstę do nieba
Konieczność częstej reinstalacji Windy bynajmniej nie jest przyjazna, a możliwość działania na dysku zewnętrznym bez żadnych ceregieli, to umięjętność, której tak prymitywny system jak Windows nigdy nie osiągnął, może już nie osiągnie, bo Seven po prostu nie potrafi (technicznie niemożliwe). Moje Ubuntu działa na takim dysku PO PROSTU, zero dodatkowych cudów-niewidów.
Zawsze się śmiałem jak ktoś mówił, że winda jest przyjazna
I mam kolejny dowód 
Pewnie na możliwość instalacji na pendrive też długo poczekamy.
Myślę, że za rok
A że MS jest poważną firmą i nie zmienia zdania od tak sobie to cały czas będzie "za rok"

W przypadku windowsa poradniki nie starzeją się bo najnormalniej w świecie rozwój windy stoi w miejscu

A da się Windę da się uruchomić z dysku USB na więcej niż jednym kompie?
Pytam, bo kiedyś próbowałem żeby uruchomić XP zainstalowany na drugiej partycji z poziomu Linuksa (z wykorzystaniem qemu, virtualbox) ale za winda za każdym razem się sypała…
Qemu jeszcze nie wspiera rozruchu bezposrednio z partycji. Mialem podobne doswiadczenia jak ty: system (xp, win2000) zawiesza sie w trakcie wczytywania. Z tego co przeczytalem w sieci, zawieszanie sie nastepuje w momencie detekcji sprzetu.
@trasz, zainstaluje WinXP razem ze sterownikami na komputerze for Vista? Ostatnio walczyłem z dwoma notebookami od Asusa i było to pierwsze komputery w mojej karierze, które mnie powaliły na kolana
Nie dałem rady!!! Zainstalowałem na jednym z nich Ubuntu Alpha 6 i bez grzebania poszło wszystko oprócz kamerki i czytnika linii. Na WinXP zwykła, głupia karta sieciowa nie ruszyła ;D Inny przykład. Ubutnu 7.04 zainstalowane na moim PC z częściami Intela a potem uruchomiony z dysku na dwóch komputerach z klamotami od AMD, VIA. System podczas bootowania wyrzygał masę błędów, ale się uruchomił i działał stabilnie. WinXP wyrzygał blue screen'a i padł ;D;D;D
@lukas: Jesli chcesz porownywac, to porownuj rzeczy w podobnym wieku. Zainstaluj jakas dystrybucje na kernelu 2.4.iles na komputerze "for Vista" i wtedy porownaj obsluge sprzetu z ta z XP.
Ale ten WinXP miał aktualizacje z lutego 2008 i bez wsparcia producenta nie obsłużył w 95% sprzętu ; ) Więc się pytam gdzie jest ta prostota jak producent nie wspiera systemu? Linux sobie z tym poradził bardzo dobrze, a WinXP? MS Vistą udowodnił, że ich starszy system (nowy też) jest bezużyteczny w przypadku braku pomocy z zewnątrz!!! Przecież Vista też potrzebuje sterowniki do chipsetów, kontrolerów, audio, grafiki, USB, WiFi, internet + reszta. Nie mów mi, że developerzy MS sami piszą te sterowniki. Bez nich Vista jest bezużyteczna i tak jak WinXP nie obsłuży 95% sprzętu. Z doświadczenia wiem, że pod WinXP automatycznie działa tylko USB, ale i to kuleje bo modem do neostrady wiesza się ; ) WindowsXP bez wsparcia producentów potrafi tylko obsłużyć USB?! Przepraszam, to jest ten prosty i przyjazny dla ZU system operacyjny?!
